Q&A

Sustainable Solutions for Sacred Sites (S4) is a five-year Lilly Endowment funded program to produce sustainable solutions to the persistent concerns of congregations about their buildings. We turn a problem into a possibility by teaching and learning with imagination and experience. This program is a partnership between Bricks and Mortals, Hartford Seminary, and Partners for Sacred Spaces.

Sustainable Solutions for Sacred Sites works with congregations And houses of worship, of any faith and size in selected five cohort cities to find sustaining solutions for their space, facilities and programs, as well as anyone with direct or indirect interest in faith-based property, including development professionals, scholars, and congregants.

This process offers four targeted trainings over two years (2022-2023) designed for your needs, delivered by experts from Partners for Sacred Spaces & Bricks and Mortals and valued at $30,000.

There is also a local Coach offering on-going education and support, technical assistance on projects to adapt your space, and the opportunity to connect with other congregations during this process.

Any house of worship in one of our 5 cohort cities (NYC, Chicago, Pittsburg, Long Beach, and New Orleans) who owns real property and wishes to discover new mission centric and creative ways to utilize their property to serve the community and their congregation.

There is a first year commitment of $500.
